Support for Not-for-Profits
1. Funding and Resources
Supporting South Sudan’s for-purpose sector
No man saves a country alone. NFO is a national organization located in Juba. Our members include lawyers, psychiatrists, psychologists, priests, bishops, and individuals from civil society and media. We are working with the Specialized Committee on Defense and Veterans’ Affairs at Parliament and the Ministry of Defence and Veterans Affairs, and would love to be working with you as well.
National study: Mental Health in South Sudan's Armed Forces
South Sudan has one of the largest mental health gaps worldwide. According to estimates in our program proposal, there are over 1.2 million people in need of services, 204,000 among them suffering from serious disorders. Humanitarian initiatives now cover fewer than 10,000 people per year, leaving about 99% without any help. For those veterans who have endured long years of war, that gap is invisible and hard to discuss.
2. What We Fund
Three phases: one objective: providing care to the individuals bearing the burden.
- Psychoeducation (6 months): Training for the military leaders and forces, for the wounded assembly centers, and training for 50 military counselors.
- Psychological Assessment and Therapy: Assessment of psychological and psychosocial disorders, counseling for those who require it, and therapy for individuals having moderate to severe conditions.
- Behavioral Health Clinics: The central clinic in Juba and a clinic in every state and administrative region, either at barracks or cantonment sites, with two counselors in each.

Any upcoming open call? Share it with us. If our activities fit in, we’ll prepare a proposal.
Streamlined Grants
We would much prefer spending your money on care and not bureaucracy. Reporting in our programs is outcome-based, with frequent program reviews and evaluations by outside agencies. You will know what has been accomplished, whom it was targeted at, and what has been achieved without getting buried in heaps of paperwork.
Open a Future Fund
Programs come to an end when funding comes to an end. But we are working towards something else here. In the long run, we aim to make behavioural health clinics an intrinsic part of general primary health care in barracks and cantonments for providing mental health care services. This ensures sustainability in the long run.
