Who We Are

Mental Health and Psychosocial Support for a Healed and United South Sudan

We Go Where the Treatment Gap is Widest

National Fair Outreach is a registered Psychological and Training Consultancy based in Juba, South Sudan. We are delivering counselling, psychotherapy, and family therapy services to individuals. And we are serving as the leading Military Counselling and Psychotherapy service provider for the South Sudan People's Defence Forces (SSPDF), veterans, and organized forces in the country.

The Republic of South Sudan has one of the highest mental health care gap rates in the world. Currently, there is less than 1% coverage of the population in humanitarian assistance programs. Soldiers who come back from frontline duty, veterans who struggle with reintegration at home, and civilians who have suffered as a result of war. NFO was established with the aim of reducing that gap by providing psychological services from within the barracks, cantonments, and affected communities.

The mission of NFO is to bring hope for mental health to the security sector and its surrounding communities. It is through counselling, professional capacity development, and acknowledging the toll that decades of civil war have brought to the South Sudanese nation.

1

Mental Health treatment should not be exclusive. We go to those places where there is stigma around mental illness and ensure that seeking help does not come at the price of losing one’s dignity.

2

We operate in 10 states and 3 administrative regions; we work in barracks, cantonment areas, and centers of 62 wounded assemblies.

3

We make our advocacy to the Ministry of Defense and Veterans’ Affairs and the leaders of South Sudan, transforming the reality on the ground into policies and integrated clinics.

4

We have trained our counsellors using all recognized clinical approaches, such as the psychodynamic approach, cognitive-behavioral approach, and solution-focused therapy.

5

Each group of military counsellors we train will continue doing our job even when we leave the scene. This is building capacity that will stand the test of time.

6

Whether someone fought on the battlefields or survived the aftermath of the battlefields, we handle their situation in all seriousness.

Our Services

We offer counselling and psychotherapy services to individuals, couples, and families. Also, we have a special Military Counselling and Psychotherapy Program that caters to active personnel, veterans, and organized forces.

Our Community

Our community consists of active SSPDF personnel and organized forces, veterans and military families, as well as the civilians residing within their immediate communities. Also, we have partnerships with entities such as the Ministry of Defence and Veterans Affairs, UNMISS ROLSIS, and the Specialized Committee on Defence and Veterans' Affairs (SCDVA). This ensures delivery of our services in areas of greatest need.

Our Impact

Our current program is expected to conduct mental health and psychosocial screening among 29,000 military personnel. Psychoeducation among 600 senior military leaders and organized forces members, as well as 2,480 individuals in 62 wounded assembly centres, and training of 50 military counsellors via a six-month certification course. All in preparation for the development of behavioral health clinics integrated within the barracks and cantonments across the country.

We know that this has been a difficult in Republic of South Sudan for many of the Veterans, people and communities that we serve. But together, we met the moment with heart and hope and made crucial progress to protect and advance the mental health and well-being of all South Sudanese people across Ten States and Three Administrative Areas.

Our Values

Compassion

We see everyone who walks through our door as a person who carries something real rather than a folder we must process.

Accountability

Healing begins with accountability. We encourage armed forces members to take responsibility for their actions and help rebuild trust between the army and the communities they serve.

Courage

Acknowledging what the conflict did to an individual, as well as to the entire country, takes courage. We expect that from our clients and do the same for ourselves.

Reconciliation

We don't only offer clinical services but also services that are meant to rebuild trust between the army and the community it serves and between people who have suffered from the same conflict on opposite sides.
